The Experiential Journey between Art, Space and Architecture
Museums attract visitors for a number of reasons. They may be destinations for outings, tourist attractions or for specific themes, exhibitions or events. As cultural and social magnets, museums have an important impact on the local community, culture and economy. Historical, visual art, multimedia, object based art, folklore of fragile maps or textiles narrate that in-between, ephemeral moment that is the journey through the museum. Museums are designed to house a vast array of content. The conditions within which works of art are to be kept are carefully composed. Depending on the stance of the museum; contemporary, historical, educational.. there will be constraints and rules about the layout, lighting and in-between all this, most importantly, the visitor experience. The journey through the space starting from the approach, all the way through the paths, levels, curated exhibits and plinths of artworks through to the exit and beyond. What stays in the memory of the visitor? It is this notion; the journey which will be discussed in this article.

Inside-Outside-Inside; Modulation of Public and Private Condition in Japanese Contemporary Residential Architecture
Over creates within the Designer and the Client. This particular communion of interests express an Architecture which more than others can represent the Spirit of a Place. When the attitude and talent of the designer is given, it is necessary some buyer who allows the creative to process to the extent its own concepts and ideas about functionality and about the composition of spaces.
House N by Sou Fujimoto, for example, an archetype for the kind of architecture here analyzed, consists of three different layers of external structure envelope, when the need was of one. The result is a brilliant new quality of definition of interior and exterior conditions, but the extra structure had to be paid by the client as a luxury and not as a necessity.
Three concepts of Japanese Aesthetics can help to understand why and how this architecture is able to stand so specific. Wabi-sabi, Shibui and Iki are Japanese words used to describe this particular combination of humble and daring, modesty and research for perfection: the power of a minimalism which still appears full of meanings and deepness, through the treatment of details and atmospheres; the explanation of the dichotomy between the extreme simplicity for example of the exterior design and the material palette and the playful expressivity of the interior spaces.
One hundred years after the beginning of the experience of Modern Architecture with the experiments of the Siedlungen, the focus seems going back to Residential Architecture with the curiosity to discover if something new is coming up. written by Michele Stramezzi
