Divided across two categories - death and memory - the thirteen
buildings presented in this issue range from crematoriums and chapels to
mausoleums and memorials. In the former category, the projects are seen
not just as functional objects for the disposal of the dead, but
instead as elaborate anthropological artefacts through which the living
express their respect. Commemoration drives the latter typologies, which
spring from the need to maintain the memory of tragedy or heroism.
Among the featured projects are works by Henning Larsen, DA Studios,
Hiroshi Nakamura, Rudy Ricciotti, Nizio Design International, 3RW
Arkitekter, Höweler+Yoon, and more.
